Fibernet

Fibernet is an Internet connection that transfers data fully or partially via fiber optic cables. Fiber refers to the thin glass wires inside the insulated cable. Optic refers to the way the type of data transferred (through light signals). It gives you virtually unlimited bandwidth capability, and it is the best technology on the market today.

Broadband

Broadband is used to describe a type of data transmission in which a single medium can carry several channels at once. Broadband is a radio term which means that multiple frequency carriers are used to carry one signal. It explains the way ADSL services work and so has become a term to describe a fast internet connection.

Leased Line

Leased lines are used by businesses to connect offices which are geographically distant. Dissimilar to normal dial-up connections, a leased line will always be active. The fee for this leased line connection will be fixed on monthly basis. Basic factors that affects the monthly fee are distance between the end points and the speed of the fixed circuit. This is because the connection doesn't carry any other communications and the carrier can assure the promised quality.

Wireless

In networking terms, wireless is the word used to describe any computer network where there will be no physical wire connection between the sender and the receiver, but the network will be connected by the radio waves or microwaves to maintain communications. Wireless networking uses specific types of equipment, such as NICs, APs, and routers in the place of wires for connectivity.

Intranet / VPN

The intranet is a private network that is based on TCP/IP protocols. The intranet is associated with an organization, usually a corporation, which is accessible only by the members of that particular organization, employees, or others with authorization. Intranet's websites and software applications look and act just like any others, but the firewall surrounding an intranet rejects unauthorized access.

A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that is constructed using public wires which is usually the Internet to connect remote users or regional offices to a company's private, internal network. A VPN secures the private network by using encryption and other security systems to make sure that only the authorized users can access the network and no data can be intercepted.

Lan / Wan Networks

A local-area network (LAN) is a network that covers a small area. Mostly, a LAN is restricted to a single room or group of buildings, however, a LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance through telephone lines and radio waves.

A system of LANs connected together is called as a wide-area network (WAN). The difference between a LAN and WAN is that the wide-area network covers a relatively large geographical area. Typically, a WAN consists of two or more local-area networks (LANs) and are often connected through public networks.
